National Stalking Awareness Month 2014 Events


January 2014 marked the tenth observance of National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM). Below is a summary of some of the national and local NSAM activities.


  • President Obama issued a proclamation declaring January 2014 as National Stalking Awareness Month.

Local Stalking Awareness Month Activities

Agencies, groups, and individuals across the United States commemorated NSAM 2014 in creative and innovative ways. We will be compiling a list of these activities below.

Alabama Colorado
  • Tu Casa, Inc. hosted a "Lunch N' Learn" to educate members of their community on stalking.
Iowa Kansas Kentucky
  • The University of Kentucky's Violence Intervention and Prevention Center is conducting a campus wide campaign titled "Take a Second. Look." They have published an article about NSAM in the campus newspaper, conducted social media outreach, and hosted a Brown Bag session for staff and faculty. There will also be a session with the center's staff to review safety and privacy settings on social networking sites.
  • LSU Women's Center is conducting their second campus wide stalking awareness workshop intended to educate students about the dangers and preventative measures they can take against stalkers. Read more.
  • CHANA Baltimore celebrated National Stalking Awareness Month with a free stalking presentation and self-defense class.
  • GATCCS commemorated National Stalking Awareness Month by hosting a Stalking Awareness Workshop held on January Wednesday 15, 2014.
  • The Women's Resource Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is hosting Harvette Williams, Executive Director of Michigan Coalition of Anti-Stalking on January 29th. Her story was featured on E! Investigates: Stalkers and Stalked: Someone's Watching. First Step, Western and Downriver Wayne County Project on Domestic and Sexual Violence, will give a presentation about stalking and resources in our community.
