National Stalking Awareness Month 2015 Events


January 2015 marks the eleventh observance of National Stalking Awareness Month (NSAM). Below is a summary of some of the national and local NSAM activities.


  • On December 31, 2014, the White House released the January 2015 as National Stalking Awareness Month presidential proclamation. You can read the proclamation by clicking here.

Local Stalking Awareness Month Activities

Agencies, groups, and individuals across the United States commemorated NSAM 2015 in creative and innovative ways. We will be compiling a list of these activities below.

  • The United States Air Force Academy in Colorado hosted a cross-organizational training at the Falcon Club to enhance their recognition and ability to respond to stalking. Read more here.







  • The Bossier Parish Community College's Office of Diversity and Multicultural Relations hosted Norma L. Whitaker, clinical certified domestic violence counselor and director of You Are Not Alone Counseling Services in honor of NSAM. Read more.


  • The Ohio Domestic Violence Network hosted a webinar to discuss the prevalence of stalking in domestic violence cases, appropriate safety planning for survivors being stalked, and legal remedies for stalking crimes.




New Jersey

  • The Burlington County Superior Court Domestic Violence Unit will be raising awareness within their courts through flyers, posters, and other awareness activities within their office.
  • The Center for Public Safety at Seton Hall University have posted flyers in their community to raise awareness. Click here to read more.

New York


  • The Monroe County Health Council will present stalking awareness information at their January Health Council Board Meeting. They plan to also distribute relevant resources to all attendees. The distribution of education and materials will promote a better educated community that is knowledgeable of the crime of stalking.

U.S. Virgin Islands

  • The Women's Coalition of St. Croix commemorated National Stalking Awareness Month 2015 through public service announcements on seven popular radio stations in their community. The organization also shared stalking statistics, prevention and awareness information in the community and beyond through posts on their website and social networks. They also continue to monitor and inquire about the status of proposed additional stalking legislation for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Click here to read more.

Washington, D.C.

  • For NSAM, American University's Sexual Assault Prevention Coordinator, Daniel Rappaport, and the PEERS Educators tabled in the Mary Graydon Center about changing the language surrounding “Facebook stalking,” as well as offered information on resources for stalking survivors.
