National Crime Victims’ Rights Week: April 19–25, 2026

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week takes place from April 19-25, 2026, marking its 45th year. First proclaimed in 1981 by President Ronald Reagan, this week brings people together to recognize the impact of crime, honor survivors, and renew our commitment to victims’ rights and services.

Crime deeply affects victims and survivors in many ways: physically, financially, emotionally, spiritually, and socially. No one should have to face that trauma alone. Across the country, over 12,000 victim service programs help survivors rebuild their lives and support public safety. Their work is backed by more than 32,000 laws that define and protect victims’ rights.

The U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime’s 2026 NCVRW theme is “Listen. Act. Advocate. Protect victims, serve communities.” There’s also a field-led effort — we’re a partner — highlighting CommUNITY. This field-led effort recognizes survivors, advocates, professionals, and neighbors helping make sure victims’ needs are met with quality, teamwork, and complete services. There’s a resource toolkit you can access to help participate in NCVRW 2026.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is a time to look back on the advances of the past 45 years, honor the strength and resilience of survivors, and renew our promise to support victims’ rights every day.
