Older Americans Awareness Month

May 1 - May 31

May marks Older Americans Month (OAM), led by the Administration for Community Living. This year’s theme, Powered by Connection, emphasizes the significant impact of meaningful relationships and social connections on health and well-being. Join us in promoting the benefits of connecting with others by sharing facts about the mental, physical, and emotional health benefits of social connection. Explore ways to support independence and aging in place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues. Encourage older adults to engage in community events, social clubs, and volunteer opportunities. Connect them with local services like transportation to help overcome obstacles to maintaining meaningful relationships. Encourage hosting connection-centric events or programs focused on older adult mentors to youth, peer-to-peer support, or similar efforts. Challenge networks to prioritize meaningful social connections and share the benefits. Inspire older adults to share what connection means to them on social media using the hashtag #PoweredByConnection.

Let’s celebrate and support our older adults by fostering meaningful connections throughout the month of May.
